Coconut oil is particularly valuable in hair care because its fatty-acid composition allows it to penetrate the hair fibre and has been shown to help reduce protein loss from the hair. Glycerin and betaine provide additional moisture support, while panthenol helps condition and improve softness and manageability. The formula also contains hydrolyzed wheat protein, which temporarily reinforces and conditions weakened strands for stronger-feeling hair. DoubleButter is especially well suited to thick, coarse, dry and high-porosity hair, including curly and coily Types 2C–4, that benefits from rich emollients and moisture-sealing ingredients. Because the formula is intentionally heavy and buttery, fine or low-porosity hair should use it sparingly, as too much can create buildup, reduce volume and weigh down curl definition. It can also be used to create soft twists and twist-outs or paired with As I Am Twist Defining Cream when additional styling hold is needed.
